Newz Update June 25th, 2006
The new Heyday Records sampler has been released and we're on it again. You can find the song "Happy" on there. Track 8. I believe you can get it free, or insanely cheap, at http://www.heyday.com/.
The Nerve! will be performing a complete set of original music at Club Snitch in Manhattan on Thursday, June 22. We've been laying low this year and just playing cover shows to pay the bills, as we've all been getting involved in other projects to kind of separate ourselves from this sometimes crazy, hectic, whirlwind of a thing called The Nerve! (more on that later). We haven't played a "proper" Nerve! show since March and we're all pretty stoked about this one. Come on down!
Joe is now the full-time bassist for Bumblefoot and is doing quite an impressive job juggling the 2 bands (for those of you who might not know, Bumblefoot is the supremely talented guitarist/singer who produced the current album and who is now playing guitar with Guns & Roses). Also, for all you bass nuts, be on the lookout for the Joe Nerve signature bass from Minarik Guitars, coming this summer.
Anthony has stepped out from behind the drums to play guitar, sing and write the songs in his new band, Kung Fu Grip. The new album will be out this summer. I've heard quite a few of the tracks. It's gonna be hot! They've been doing some shows throughout the city, so keep an eye out for 'em. And of course Ant is also the lively drummer for the duo known as Good Grief... and... he's drumming with a new band called Sweet Blood, and still manages to kick the shit out of the drums with The Nerve! He is indeed the hardest working man in show biz! :D
As for myself, I've been writing a whole bunch of new songs, with some collaborations with Anthony, for my first solo album. I'm sure some of 'em will end up on a Nerve! album too. I'll be doing some solo acoustic shows this summer, so check back here for dates and keep an eye on your e-mail box.

Peace,
Randy Nerve :)
Newz Update June 15th, 2006
Blaaaaaaaaaaa, bla bla.
Joe
Newz Update October 7, 2005
Randy here, taking over for Joe in writing this installment of Nerve! newz. Joe and I have been asked to go on tour in Europe with Bumblefoot (www.bumblefoot.com) for the next 6 weeks or so. This is all extremely exciting for us. So I've been spending the last few weeks in front of my computer cramming day and night, learning to play 3 albums worth of songs. I go out occasionally to sing and play guitar on the subway (my "day job") and to remind myself that there's a world out there. It's quite a challenge and it's totally stretching my musical muscles, as this has been the hardest shit I have ever had to learn. If you're not familiar with Bumblefoot, his music is sort of a cross between Primus, King Crimson, Frank Zappa and Tom Jones. Very out there. We leave on October 11th for a four night stint in Moscow. Then it's back home for a couple of Nerve! shows, then back out to Europe for a month
from October 26th through Thanksgiving week. We'll be visiting France, Italy, Belgium, England and The Netherlands. I've never been out of North America and I've dreamed of visiting these places since I was a kid. And to be going there to play music truly makes it a dream fulfilled. Dreams do become reality. The funny part of it is that The Nerve! was supposed to go to Europe last year, but instead we decided to stay home and record a new album with Bumblefoot producing. Now here it is a year later and we're going to Europe with Mr. Foot. Isn't it
ironic?
Anthony will be holding down the treehouse while we're gone. For anything Nerve! related you can e-mail him at anthonynerve@thenerve.info. Speaking of Anthony, he's been doing a kick ass job as our drummer. He's a great musician and a great guy. Welcome to the family, Anferny! And I also want to give a shout out to Desiree, Ant's lady friend. She's been coming on the road with us and handling our merchandise. Thank you, Desiree. We love you.
In other news, our recent shows at the Sam Ash sponsered outdoor concert and at Peggy O'Neill's were loads o'fun. We've been on the road for most of the summer doing short tours throughout PA, NJ and upstate NY, and hadn't played a show in Brooklyn for months. So those 2 shows were a great way to close out the summer. It was nice to see lots of familiar faces again. Also, we finally got to meet Steve Phillips, the A&R guy from Heyday Records. We've never even met him in person before (Heyday is in California). He came to NY last month during CMJ week and finally got to see us perform live at the Peggy's show. Great guy. If you're reading this, Steve, we think you're awesome! And as Joe has stated in previous newz installments, Heyday has been a great label to work with. Thank you, Steve.
And finally, keep checking back here for details about this December's holiday bash. It's going to be our 3rd and best one yet!
Peace,
Randy Nerve :)
Newz Update July 27th
The time has come to bid farewell to Santo. No big secret or surprise as to why; our extensive performance schedule, tours, and the time we've begun putting into what we love best has simply become too much to juggle with his other career as an electrician. Are we upset. No. Am I lying? Yes. Goddamn you Santo - you're a drummer, not an electrician! When are you going to figure that one out? All's swell though. If you know us, and Santo, you know we're all cool with each other still.
Ahhh yes, so we now welcome aboard, as a fully fledged already hazed new Nerve member - ANTHONY NERVE! You may know him as GOOD GRIEF ANTHONY, which he still actually is - but leading a double life is something we sort of all do anyhow. We're looking forward to growing with him and writing lots of new stuff that will be a true reflection of the new Nerve blood. No shows will be cancelled due to the sudden change - Anthony already knows enough of our shit to keep us alive. Thanks for the hard work.
We're still buzzing from the excitement of our residencies at the soon to be truly historical CBGB, and the Arlene Grocery Monday shows we just completed. We had a once a month Thursday show happening for a while at CBs, and every one of them kicked ass. We invited other Bklyn. bands to show their stuff, and more Brooklyn peeps than we expected came each time and showed lots of love and support. Same for our opening spots at Arlene's for their R&R Karaoke on Monday nites in July. Thanks again for the love.
In other newz Randy and I have landed a few endorsement deals over the past months. I am happily endorsed by Ernie Ball who's Musicman basses I've played exclusively for the past 5 years, Randy by DiMarzio, and we're in the midst of signing contracts with Sam Ash music stores. A handful of other things are in the works which I'll write about as they come to fruition. Heyday Records has been label of our dreams, these guys are working closely with us to help organize our tours, get our music out there, get us write-ups around the country. They have gone above and beyond their call of duty and been truly supportive. The new heyday sampler is out with music from Marty Wilson Piper, David J, The Nerve! and even some Dave Navarro. You can get it at www.heyday.com or pick one up at one of our many upcoming shows.
I'm sure there's tons of newz I missed here, but hey - I updated this thing. Only took me 6 months this time!!! Anyone want to volunteer to do our website for us?
Newz Update January 16th
We're all so freakin busy these days. So many great things taking place. Most importantly is that the scene is flourishing in Brooklyn. We've got our monthly shows at Peggy's & CBGB (and lots of you are coming into the city these days). Mike (Naked to Kill) has the Sunday shows he's putting together at Wild Spirits, Good Grief's got their thing at the Limestone in Bay Ridge, the other Mike is making Third Rail a staple on Saturday nights in Bensonhurst. If you want to know details on any of this there's lots of info here. http://pub4.bravenet.com/forum/318630355 The link is also on our homepage.
As for The Nerve! with the help of our new label (Heyday Records) we're in the middle of booking an east coast tour, getting write-ups in lots of local and national publications (we'll post details as they arrive), and doing tons of stuff too tedious to write about. For those of you who know Janine I have to give her a shout. She's been putting an enormous amount of effort into helping The Nerve! and working alongside Heyday records to take on many of the necessary duties that we simply don't have time to. Thank you sooo much.
On a personal level all three of us have stuff going on. Santo is still on the mend (broken thumb for those of you who don't know), but he was healed enough to create a little Nerve! comic book we just started passing around. I'm going to see it for the first time today. He should be back behind his kit by mid-February - till then you'll most likely see Good Grief Anthony behind the kit. That fucker learned a full set of our songs, and about 30 cover songs in a little more than a week's time! Thanks to Chris Lamantia, and Anthony Demarco for their jumping in also.
Randy will be gracing the stage alongside the guys of Status Quo No Show till they find a replacement for their guitarist. Randy has been jumping on lots of people's stages lately - including a show in Florida where a band's singer didn't show up and they asked if he'd front the band, ad-libbing lyrics. Sometimes you'd kill to have a camcorder. I only got a few pictures. Oh well. He'll be playing a couple of coffee shops and stuff in the next month. We'll email details.
I'm quite stoked about a few things. This month I'm going to be profiled in Bass Player magazine. I'll be playing a few gigs outside The Nerve! also - 2 shows on my birthday, February 16th (send all gifts through paypal) at a place called Sweet 16. One with Q-ball and the other with Bumblefoot. I've wanted to do a show with Bumblefoot since 2000 so I'm gonna have a smile on me face fer sure.
Other stuff going on that I'd like to write about, but I'm heading to the afternoon show at Wild Spirits and if I miss Naked to Kill, Mike's gonna cry and I'll never hear the end of it - so I'm outta here. We love Mike.
Newz Update November 6, 2004
Newz. Shoes. Clues. Booze. Use. Queues. Blues. Ooze. Snooze. Yessssssss. Snooze. Slumber. Rest. Dreamland. Sleep, beautiful sleep. Zzzzzzzzz... Just a couple more hours, please. Pleeeze? Sorry, I'm having a momentary lapse of intellectual capacity. I just woke up after sleeping only 5 hours and playing an all night gig with The Nerve! Got to bed just as the birds we're waking up. So my brain is a little foggy from lack of rest, 3 straight hours of playing with my amp on eleven, my usual fogginess even when I'm wide awake, and with all the things happening in Nerve! land.
First, the biggest newz is that Joe is pregnant with Santo's illegitimate love child from a second marriage. But the more exciting newz is that we've just signed on with Heyday Records. This is very thrilling for us. Heyday is a wonderful indie label that we're very honoured to be a part of. Alternative veterans David J. from Bauhaus and Love & Rockets, and Marty Willson-Piper from The Church are on Heyday, so we feel like we're in good company. We couldn't have done it without you. Your support has been nothing short of awesome and extremely touching. Now the hard work REALLY begins! The official release date is Tues. Nov. 9th, followed by our CD release party on Wed. Nov. 10th at CBGB (details are right above you). We're playing at 9pm, but get there early to see The X-Possibles and World War IX. Doors open at 7. And ya gotta be 16 to enter and prove it. That's just CB's policy. By the way, the first run of CDs are gonna be collector's items, so buy like 10 of 'em! Seriously, the pressing plant that made the CDs fucked up and forgot to put Heyday Record's name on it. So once these are gone, that's it. In support of the new CD we're gonna start touring after the new year so we can start infecting the rest of the country. Also, K-Rock has started playing a commercial for the new disc, so please start calling the station and ask them to play that band you've been hearing about (888-923-KROCK or 212-946-5762).
And of course, keep checking back here for more shows, news and lots more fun. We're gonna be completely updating the website soon, so if you have any suggestions on how we can make it better just drop us a note at our new e-mail address, thttp://thenerve@thenerve.info/.
Joy be with you, peace and contentment,
Randy :)
Newz Update June 17, 2004
It's 8000 degrees out today, that's what I think the weatherwoman said. 2 kids passed out at FDR H.S. while taking the English and Global Studies regents. I think they did it to get out of taking the tests. I was there sweating with them because I still have to work a damn day job. I actually like working there, but I LOVE playing music, so next time we play - instead of 200 of you coming out, can ya tell a bunch of your friends and make it like 2,000? Then I'll be able to start JUST playing music. Thanks. I knew you'd all oblige.
We're beyond psyched about the state of Nerve things. Brooklyn day was the 4th ultra-successful all ages show we put on at Peggy Oneills. As long as you all keep showing up, we'll keep putting on the shows. The owners are VERY happy with the way things are going. I especially liked The Drive. Didn't you?
Last weekend Randy, Santo and I trekked out to Princeton, NJ and spent the 2 days there with Bumblefoot, who is producing our 3rd, upcoming CD. We laid down all the rhythm ( bass, guitar and drum) tracks, and we couldn't be more ecstatic. Can't speak for the other guys, but when we start booking time and spending money in studios, I stress bigtime over whether we're gonna be having an "on" day, or an "off" day. All bands know that sometimes you think you sound like god, and other days you think you totally suck - and if it happens to be one of the latter on a day you record, well - then that doubly sucks. Seems the good sprits were with us. The sound in Bumblefoot's studio was great, drums were really tight and snappy sounding, bass and guitar had great tone - it got us up, jumping, and doing what we do best, at our very best. I'm gonna buy one of these CDs myself when it's done! I'm confident we'll be having our giant CD release party in the early fall. My brain is already bubbling with ideas; honorary Nerve fan awards, a drummer hall of fame, some great guest artists, other surprises I don't feel at liberty yet to speak about.... not to mention lots of free food and other crap. The party is either going to be at Peggy Oneills, or CBGB. We haven't decided yet. Peggy Oneill's everyone gets to go, CBGB you'd have to be at least 16, but we get the benefits of their great vibe and sound system. If we wind up doing CBs we have plans to make it up to all the younger people who can't get in. Feel free to email us your thoughts on that. Let us also know if you have any ideas to make it the best CD release party in history. If we don't respond it's cuz we're lazy and self centered :), don't take it personally. Send thoughts here.
Last, but (I hate clichés so I'm not finishing this sentence), due to the turnout and fun we had at CBGB back in May, they've offered us a couple more Saturdays in the near future, and asked if we wanted to do a residency of sorts on Thursday nights in the fall! If we decide to do that, we'll be picking the bands we'll play with and start doing the same thing there that we're doing at Peggy's. How fucking cool shall that be?!?!
We're heading back to Princeton tomorrow to start recording vocals. My Nerves are sizzling with anticipation. I'll do my best to keep you posted. Peas all!
Newz Update May 30th, 2004
I'm runnin on 3 hrs sleep so excuse all typos, improper english, disjointed thoughts and nonsense. We played CBGB last nite, had our best time there yet, and I'm still high from it. Made a shitload of new friends and were really happy to see a nice turnout of regulars. We're starting to feel like we have homes all over the place now. Peggy Oneill's in Brooklyn, CBGB in the city, and one of our newest favorite places - this super great unknown (till now) pup called Maguire's in Queens. We've played there about a half a dozen times and the crowd keeps growin. They keep coming back for more Nerve! and we're loving it as much as it seems thay are. Naah... we're loving it more. :)
Newz: We're going into the studio June 12th and 13th to begin the recording of "Booby Trap", our third full length CD. I'm feeling really positive about it. It will be produced by Bumblefoot and it's going to be a lot different from our last 2 CDs. How? Well yer just gonna have to buy it to see.
June 10th is Brooklyn day and the city has given all school kids and teachers off so we do a show at Peggy Oneills that they can all come to. It's so nice how the city supports The Nerve! Info above. My head hurts. I'm gonna aks Randy to write more newz and I'll post what he has to say.
Newz Update April 13, 2004
We're not in Amsterdam. That's good though, I think. Fer those of you following The Nerve Newz we were supposed to leave for Europe April 7th. A rethinking of things has brought us to the conclusion that it would be far better for us to invest in a new CD, as we currently have at least 15 songs that are yet to be recorded. Better to cancel the European shows with plans to get there this coming fall with a brand new CD in hand. The tentative title of the new disk is "Booby Trap", but we're open to suggestions. I'm going to put up a suggestion link on the fun page. If you come up with an idea for a title that we like better, we'll use it, give you credit, and send you the new CD (when it's done) plus a t-shirt for free.
The all ages shows at Peggy Oneill's are turning out even better than we expected. The crowd has doubled at each of the performances. Last show at least 250 people showed up. Details for the 4th upcoming show are below. Please also go to our new message forum and post. Feel free to post about anything you'd like. Pass the link along to yer freinds too. http://pub4.bravenet.com/forum/318630355 The link is also on the Fun and the Links page.
Other little mentionables.... Randy and I have been doing acoustic backup for Michelen Van Hautem regularly, www.thebelgiansinger.com, if you want to see us do something completely different check her gig calendar. Randy's got a new guitar to smash around. I've been playing a cheap Dan Electro Hodad lately, cuz it feeds back like a guitar. Me and my Music Man have been inseparable for years so I feel this is newzworthy - to me at least. :) Anthony Demarco is going to sit in on the drums in a couple of upcoming shows - Santo isn't going anywhere, just has some prior engagements. We're still looking for Nerve panty models (go to the panty pix page for details).... we have a shitload of gigs coming up.... more newz to come soon.
Seeya round
Newz update February 3, 2004
The Nerve's second all ages show at Peggy Oneill's was great. In order to save myself some typing time you can read what some of the peepoles who were there had to say at The Temple message board. Click on The Nerve!s all ages extravaganza. Post something too if you like.
Something else I'd like to mention - Garageband.com. I'm sure a lot of you know about it already, it's new to me. A year or so ago Randy uploaded Spank the Monkey, and now all of a sudden tons of people are listening to it. We're getting a pile of emails every day from people who've downloaded it. I don't understand the site completely but if you know more about this crap than me, please go there, look up The Nerve, download Spank the Monkey and review it. You'd be doing us a service as I believe the more people that review it, the more accessible it becomes to others.
Plans for the European tour are finally coming together. We'll be leaving April 7th and returning the 18th. Lots of details still need to be hashed out. I'll post details as they arrive.
Lastly I'd like to mention that we've been doing an open mike sort of thing at the past couple of bar gigs we've done, and it's really working out well. Lots of people are showing up with their bands, or alone to jump on stage with us and show everyone what they've got. I highly recommend you check one out, whether you're a musician, or just want to be a part of the fun. Next one we're doing is this weekend in Queens. Info is above.
That's all for now. I'm off to bed. Seeeeeeeeeeeeeeyas!
Newz update January 17, 2004
Just want to note that the panty page is up, as are some pix of our show at the wonderful Pussycat Lounge on January 2, 2004. Check em out. There's also an all new bass geek page under construction. If you have any interest in bass guitar take a look. More updates to come soon.
Newz Update January 2, 2004
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY!
Arrrrrgghhh!!!!!! Everyone is getting on my case lately about updating the site. My ass was kicked 10X over after our last show at the Pussycat Lounge. Yes, I heard you all loud and clear....
The Joey Ramone Holiday Bash kicked major ass! Continental was jam packed, we could hardly make it to the stage to pay our Nerve Ramone tribute. Fer those who missed out we did The Nerve! versions of We're a Happy Family, I Wanna Be Well, and Carbona Not Glue. I'm sure it's gonna be written up in some of the city papers. Check them out and let us know if you see anything. NY Waste I know was there.
Speaking of write-ups, we got a great write-up for our 1st Holiday show at Peggy Oneill's (Coney Island Bklyn), in the entertainment paper 24/7. That too was a huge success, so much so that the club wants us to do it again. We're planning our next show, with 10 more of your favorite bands, for January 24th. As the details arrive I shall post them. Until then you can come see us at St. Stephen's Place in L.I., this GREAT new little bar we discovered about a month ago in L.I. Lots of super friendly people, great happy atmosphere.... the owners treated us really well. We might be doing a regular monthly thing there we all liked it so much.
If you want to see Randy and I do something COMPLETELY different come check out at one of the shows we're doing with the lovely Belgian singer Michelene Van Hautem. It's totally different from anything that most have you have heard us do. Not Quite Nerve! style music, but we couldn't turn down the opportunity to play with such a gifted and beautiful woman. You'll have to check her calendar for show details - upcoming dates are Monday, Jan. 12, Wednesday, Jan 14, and Monday, February 9th.
Details on the European tour are still to come. We've got lots of new material. Lots more shows to come in the new year. I'm committing to updating the site!!!! HAHAHAHAH, uhhh.... ok.... I have lots of new pics to post. OHH YEAH!!! Almost forgot! We're starting a Nerve! panty page. We've already had some beautiful, wonderful, gracious volunteers to model them for us. It'll be on the pix page. I'll get that up soon as I can. If you'd like to volunteer to model our panties you can do one of the following: Drop us an email here, and we'll come running over with some free panties and our camera (our favorite way of doing things), take a picture of yourself in The Nerve! panties you already own and send it to us, come to our next show and pick up a pair, or hell - just get a black magic marker, write The Nerve! on your favorite panties, take some pictures and send them to us!!!!!! Yes, you must be over 18 to have yer panty pics posted and if there's any doubt, we're gonna have to ask you to provide lots of proof. Peace to everyone and have a happy new year.
Newz Update September 18, 2003
Our tour of Europe has been postponed until February. A variety of factors made the intended October tour difficult if not impossible to follow through with. We're actually happy about this as we haven't even gotten our passports yet :P, and will have a lot more time for promotional purposes.
We've been really fortunate to have been landing some super cool shows lately. The summer was great with the outdoor concert in Coney Island, the show at the new Temple spot (I hear it's only temporary), and our final summer show at the Sideshow, also in Coney Island. We were told it was the biggest selling show of the summer - and that with Coney Island being closed!!! Status Quo No Show strutted their stuff for the 2nd time, and Tyler and his gang of uniquely talented people put on really awesome sideshow. I think I have a crush on the bug eating tattooed lady. The rubber guy almost made me vomit. We're doing it again next year. You MUST be there.
This Saturday's show will be an awesome kick-off for the fall/winter season. Pussycat Lounge in downtown NYC. Randy and I checked the club out last nite for the 1st time. There are 3 floors. First floor a strip bar where you can see the finest in topless (naked?) entertainment, 2nd floor is where we'll be (nice and safe for women who don't want to be around the 1st floor :) - and we'll probably take off our clothes to even the score ), and a 3rd floor intimate lounge that overlooks the stage. It's a great upscale place - and the best newz is that it's only $5.00 admission and FREE BEER ALL NITE!!!!! all the above, for $5.00. I know I'm gonna be there!!! I'll be drinking O'doulls though.
Newz Update June 1, 2003
Hi everybuddy!
Randy here bringing you the current newz. LOTS of stuff is going on. The big news is we're going on tour in Europe in the fall. We'll be visiting Holland, Belgium and Germany. I've always wanted to go to Europe, but to do it with the band is a dream come true. Also, the videos for "Swimming Pool" and "Change the Station" have finally been completed! YAY! Unfortunately, because of technical reasons, we were unable to use any of the street footage that we shot with the street team. But we did get some great live shots at the Temple with lots of you dancing, moshing, and stage diving. So some of you might still be in it. We thank all of you for coming out that day and participating. It was a great experience for me. Maybe someday we'll do an "outtakes" video and release some of that footage. Anyway, the videos came out great and we've put them both together with last year's short "rockumentary". That one was filmed for promotional purposes (ie: to send to record companies, managers, clubs, etc.), so not that many Nerve! fans have ever seen it before. The whole video with all 3 pieces is available now (details on the "music/merch" page).
Live stuff: Be on the lookout for us at the Siren Festival in Coney Island on Saturday, July 19th. We also have a big show in the works for sometime this summer (probably August). It's gonna be a "Temple Extravaganza" all ages show. Bands performing will be Monty Love, 5 Cent Deposit, Clearview 77, 5 minutes and The Nerve!. We're not sure yet where it will be, but keeping checking back here for updates. Speaking of all ages shows, for those of you who miss The Temple we've found a great new all ages place in the city. It's a club called Rare. It's an amazing place! It used to be called The Cooler and it's an old meat warehouse. The place is huge and you can literally get lost in there. There's lots of different rooms and places you can go to be alone if ya wanna just chill with your friends in between bands (or if the band is too loud for ya!). The stage area has a very cool, dimly lit, old-school rock and roll vibe, there's lots of cool, comfy, retro furniture in there to sit on, and it's just an amazing, fun place. We played there for the first time a couple of weeks ago and had a blast. Lots of you came out to the show and it was nice seeing some familiar faces, but it was nothing like the turnout we get at The Temple. Which brings me to a very important subject. This is a new place and it's normally a regular 21 to enter club. They're just starting to try the all ages thing. But if there aren't enough kids coming out to show their support it ain't gonna be all ages much longer. Lots of people are still mourning the loss of The Temple and we miss it too, but The Temple was not just a physical place. It was a symbol of a scene and of an idea that music is for everyone, not just people who are old enough to drink. The Temple lives on in places like Rare. Other clubs in the city that have been doing all ages shows are Continental and Arlene Grocery. And CBGB is ALWAYS 16 to enter (not quite all ages, but very cool nonetheless). But if nobody leaves the comfortable confines of Brooklyn to check out all these great places then the entire scene suffers, not just The Temple. Don't let the New York all ages scene die with The Temple. I'm out. Peace!
Love,
Randy Nerve :)
See ya soon!!!
