The History!!

A Work In Progress - Part One!!!

Once there was a band called Outside. They sucked. They were basically 4 guys with 4 different ideas who thought that the combination of their thoughts and ideas made them a truly unique and wonderful band. They sucked. After playing many Monday and Tuesday nights to very empty clubs it dawned on them. Hey, we must suck. They decided to make changes. For the sake of protecting the innocent, I shall speak of only 2 of the members of Outside by name - Joe and Randy - yours truly from The Nerve. On the advice of someone who was going to HELP Outside get it together, Joe and the others decided that they didn't suck, Randy sucked.... so they threw him out of the band.

This is a true story.

Much to their dismay, Outside now sucked even more. And they never were able to quite get it together after that.

Months passed and somehow Joe was able to stay friends with Randy, even though he kicked him out of the band. One day Joe woke up and realized he was broke. His recording studio wasn't pulling in any cash and he wasn't getting much work as a substitute teacher. Being a substitute teacher is great motivation to become successful at ANYTHING else. Joe decided Randy should record some songs in Joe's studio. Randy wrote tons and tons of songs. Joe knew that Randy was almost as broke as he was so he offered to record one song for free. A friendly gesture (he knew he'd be able to convince him to record more once he saw how the first came out). Joe was right. He succeeded in getting Randy to record 12 other songs - and charged him for every one of them. Now wait, yes, Joe is seeming a bit like a manipulative creep here, but truth be told - he charged Randy a mere $5.00 and hour, and each of the 12 songs were put on a 6 hour budget.  Most were recorded in 4 hours.  Okay, he charged him $10 an hour, but that's still pretty nice.

These 12 songs became what we know today as Go With Your Gut.  (how many of you just tried to click on that?)

With nothing much else to do, Randy asked Joe if he'd mind going out and playing the songs on some Monday and Tuesday nights with him. "No!" Besides - Randy only THOUGHT that he could sing. He'd never done it before the making of this CD. Randy then said, how bout if we ONLY play weekends.  Joe thought.  Joe caved in. "Book a show," he grumbled. Former Outside Drummer Brendan O'hanlon was quickly recruited. Randy got on the phone with one of the more happening venues in NYC that Outside had played and demanded a Saturday night show. The club owner agreed! He then asked, "What's the name of the new band?"... Randy stuttered, ... uhhh.... um.... The Nerve? Hence The Nerve was born.

To be continued.......
